Timing helps people with a distance to the labor market find a job

Together Strong for Work is a project in which Timing collaborates with various municipalities. Through the municipality, Timing receives people who are on welfare.
Timing then works together with a client to reduce the path to the labor market for these candidates. In this way, people who thought they would never find work again do find a nice job. Read this article to learn more about this project!

Our colleague, Inge de Haan – job coach/social affairs specialist, is committed to this project. Initially, Inge started at Timing as an Intermediary. In this role, she increasingly worked with the Wajong target group. Inge decided to further specialize in this and also took the so-called 'Harrie training', in which participants learn how to best guide people with a distance to the labor market. Inge then decided to continue as a job coach and social affairs specialist within Timing.

Currently, Inge works on behalf of Timing with the Municipality of Almelo and Enschede. She regularly receives new candidates from both municipalities. These candidates are on welfare benefits. It has been agreed with Almelo that they will provide 75 candidates, for Enschede this number is even 150. Inge is responsible for this project for both municipalities and additionally receives all the help needed from colleagues who manage the vacancies in the Twente region.

Together you are stronger
Inge is committed every day to people with a distance to the labor market. She sees very clearly that people have more to offer than just a curriculum vitae (CV). “Everyone has beautiful personal characteristics, values, norms, and character traits that, in my opinion, are very useful in many functions,” says Inge. She always makes it a challenge to find the best-fitting job for the candidate. Additionally, Timing offers the candidate training, personal guidance, and development. In this way, candidates also get the chance to work on their future directly.

How does the process work?
The candidates initially come for an introductory meeting. During this introductory meeting, goals are set. With the help of these goals, it is determined step by step what the candidate needs to get back to work as soon as possible. Additionally, it is assessed whether the candidates can apply themselves and in what kind of position the candidate sees themselves most. Inge then divides these candidates into groups. A selection is made from here, and candidates who are quickly employable are deployed immediately. Of course, there are also people who are not quickly employable. Other goals are linked to these candidates to ultimately achieve success.

The main goal of this project is to get people out of benefits as quickly as possible. Inge not only helps the candidates with job searching but also with relevant aspects around it.
Suppose you have a single mother whose children need to go to after-school care (BSO). Inge helps these mothers find a BSO so that they can also go to work. Inge regularly notices that it is quite challenging to get people back to work who have been unemployed for a long time.

Help people get to work
A great example! Inge recently met a 34-year-old woman who had not worked for 7 years. The reason for this was that her youngest son was born with a condition and spent the first few years in the hospital. Additionally, she is divorced from her husband, leaving her completely on her own. Currently, the family is stable, and her son is doing well. The woman is now at the point where she wants to and can work again. Unfortunately, the large gap on her CV works against her. Employers are not always eager for this and prefer to hire someone who has recently been working. Fortunately, there are also employers where the CV does not play a role, and this woman will start working as an administrative assistant at Timing in September. “It really feels great to help these people get a job,” says Inge with a broad smile on her face.
