Vacation days almost gone? Here's how to get more out of them!
As of this week, all schools in the Netherlands have started again. Working Netherlands is also back in full swing. Are you just back from vacation? Then we hope that the after holiday dip isn't too big. Who knows, you might soon plan a nice long weekend or another fun outing. Something to look forward to! Smartly managing your vacation days is a plus because they do run out. Here are some tips to make the most of your vacation days!
Tip 1. Smart planning
Do you want to take time off for a long weekend and ensure that you use fewer vacation days than necessary? Then it's smart to see if you can take time off around official holidays. An example: Christmas falls on Wednesday and Thursday this year. If you only work on weekdays, you can plan a very long weekend by taking Friday off. You only use one vacation day and have a five-day weekend. How great is that! And of course, you can also look at the possibilities around Easter and Pentecost.
Make sure to discuss this well with your employer and inquire about the possibilities. In every industry, holidays may not be the best time to take off, as these are peak times when a lot of staff is needed. And it's also collegial to consider your colleagues in this.
Tip 2. Work more, more vacation days
The number of vacation days you accumulate is related to the number of hours you work. The more you work, the more vacation days you accumulate. As a temporary worker, you can indicate to your employer that you are available for extra days or hours during a certain period. This way, you not only earn more money but also work on building up your vacation hours. That's two birds with one stone!
Tip 3. Your Own Planning!
Make use of our self-scheduling system YOP! As a temporary worker, you can request your leave days with this. But if you don't want to use your vacation days for every little thing, you can also ensure that you are scheduled smartly. By scheduling yourself for the available shifts, you can take your private planning into account. Do you want to start a bit later on Monday because you know you have a busy weekend ahead? You can easily indicate this in YOP!
