Top 3 expenses of young people

Image

Where young people spend their money often depends on the (home) situation, the fixed monthly expenses, and their age. One still lives comfortably at home, while another already lives in a student room. And one already owns a car, while another just happily hops on their trusty bike every day. Where do young people spend their money on - on average? Timing researched it.

Fixed expenses at number 1

At the top of the list of expenses for young people are the largest, but unfortunately unavoidable, monthly fixed expenses. Consider insurance and study costs (such as textbooks and school supplies). Transportation costs, such as public transport costs and maintenance, insurance for the bicycle, moped, or car, also fall under this category. The same goes for traffic fines... fortunately, you have quite a bit of control over these costs yourself.

Enjoyment at number 2

Fortunately, 'Enjoyment' is not too far from number 1. Young people like to spend a substantial part of their income on the more enjoyable things in life, such as going out. Enjoying the pub, dining out, dancing in the club, and the cinema. And not to forget, visiting festivals. A day out to an amusement park or swimming pool is also very popular. And not to forget: going on vacation! This last activity does make a significant dent in the budget. Multiple studies show that not only young people but also adults always spend more on vacation than planned beforehand. But one thing is certain: they do enjoy themselves!

Personal care at number 3

Surely not very surprising, but appearance is also important. The spending pattern of young people shows that they spend not only on clothing and shoes but also significantly on personal care. In this last category, gel, makeup, a nice shampoo, and a visit to the hairdresser are in the top 5. Good to know!
