Welder vacancies
Looking for a job where you can always find work? As a welder, you are always indispensable! You often work as a welder within the metal industry, and perhaps an open door: your work consists of welding various pieces of metal together. Think of aluminum, steel, or stainless steel. These are materials used, among other things, for cars or ships.
What does a welder do?
Usually, you work as a welder at a work location or a construction site where you weld parts of, for example, cars or ships together. Companies where welders work are often metal companies, construction companies, shipbuilding, or companies where machines are built.
As a welder, you will receive clear work instructions in advance and discuss your tasks with a supervisor. You connect metals, reading drawings and work instructions are part of that. It is, of course, important that you weld the correct parts together. Additionally, you will also perform related tasks such as adjusting the tools and cleaning them or, for example, marking, drilling, or sawing tasks. It also happens that you will operate a welding robot.
There are many forms of welding, which we will not go into too much detail about. The most common methods of welding are MIG, MAG, TIG, and electrode welding. MIG/MAG welding is a fairly fast method, using a constant voltage. These are usually horizontal and flat parts. TIG welding is a somewhat slower technique, using constant current, and this technique is often used for, for example, vertical pieces.
"Welders are fairly scarce, which is why there is a high demand for welders. As a welder, you have a good job guarantee."
How do you become a welder?
To become a welder, you do need some training and/or courses. It is quite a unique and specific profession that you really need to master. But once you are a welder, you are assured of a job for the rest of your life.
There are many different ways to be trained, which can be done through a welding school or by following an MBO all-round welder course. There are also more specific courses available depending on the sector. It is often possible to find a workplace where you can combine learning and working.
As a welder, it is important that you can work very precisely and also read and understand (technical) drawings. Technical insight and affinity with it are therefore important to become a welder.
What does a welder earn on average?
As a welder, the starting salary is approximately between 1700 to 2400 gross per month, based on a full-time employment. What you will earn as a welder depends on the industry, your work experience, and the company you will work for. As you gain more experience, a welder's salary can rise to 3500 euros gross per month.
What is the career perspective of a welder?
There is a high demand for welders. Welders are relatively scarce, and due to the training required, it takes some time to be able to practice the profession. But ultimately, you will have a lot of job security now and in the future.
