How do you become a receptionist?   

To become a receptionist, you don't really need a specific education, although MBO level is often required. There are courses that prepare you, usually at MBO level in the direction of administration or receptionist. The requirements vary per company, depending on how many tasks you will perform and how large the company is. 

As a receptionist, you are often the first point of contact for customers, both those who visit and those who contact by phone. It is therefore important that you are strong in communication and can remain customer-friendly. You must also be able to switch well and assess which tasks are important and which can wait. Being able to plan well and maintain an overview are also part of your tasks. 

 

What does a receptionist earn on average?  
 

The salary of a receptionist is approximately between 1700 and 2300 euros gross per month when you work full-time. Work experience, education, and the responsibilities you have are considered. Furthermore, there are often opportunities to work part-time as a receptionist. The working hours depend on the company, but usually, you work during office hours. 

 

What is the career perspective of a receptionist?  

Receptionists are present in almost every company or office, so you will not easily be out of work. It is a job that you can often perform for a long time and where you gain a lot of experience. As a receptionist, you learn a lot about customer contact, planning, and administration. These are tasks you need to manage well if you want to become, for example, an administrative assistant, account manager, or order entry employee.
