Since its founding in 1997, social entrepreneurship has played an important role in the operations of Twente Milieu. This was mainly achieved by employing people with a distance to the labor market. Since 2017, the learning and working company Startpunt has been added, where people with a distance to the labor market work for a year in combination with an MBO level 1 education. In 2017, Twente Milieu achieved the Prestatieladder Sociaal Ondernemen (PSO) certification, step 3.
Together with its shareholder municipalities, residents, and partners, Twente Milieu is working towards a 'Waste-Free Twente by 2030.' The efforts of employees, both in the office and especially out on the streets, make an important difference in this.
