Work that provides space to study

Studying, working, exercising, and making time for friends. The weeks of 26-year-old David are well-filled. In addition to his Law studies, he works via Timing at REMONDIS. He consciously chooses temporary work because it gives him the freedom to align his work with his studies and free time. This way, he keeps space for everything that is important to him. 

A full week gives satisfaction 

David lives in Hengelo and studies Law at Windesheim in Zwolle. A study that really suits him. 

Besides his studies, sports are an important part of his life. David has been practicing taekwondo from a young age and has won various prizes over the years. 

Additionally, he likes to meet up with friends and enjoys games. “I am really a social person. I enjoy being around people.” 

For David, a good week is mainly about rhythm and the ability to combine everything. “If I can do my work well and combine it with my studies and sports, then I look back positively on my week. I get a lot of satisfaction from that.”

Work that fits alongside his studies 

Especially with such a busy schedule, flexibility is important. David travels to Zwolle several days a week for his studies. His work must be able to move around that. 

“For a student like me, temporary work is ideal. There are morning shifts, day shifts, and afternoon shifts. This allows me to combine it well with everything I do.” 

How much David works also varies per period. Via Timing, he works an average of about fifteen to twenty-five hours a week. Is he busy with his studies or is there, for example, a retake coming up? Then he can work less temporarily. 

“That is very easy to discuss with Timing. If I indicate that I am busy with my studies, they think along with me. Then I work a little less one week and maybe a bit more the next week.” 

During the summer vacation, David likes to work extra days. This way, he utilizes the space he has at that moment. Precisely this ability to scale up and down makes temporary work so suitable for him. 

Working through Timing for years 

Temporary work has become very familiar to David by now. Over the years, he has had various jobs. When he was looking for new or different work, he regularly ended up at Timing again. 

“Timing had many different opportunities, also in my region. It was always easy to get in touch, and I received a quick response. As a result, I kept coming back to Timing when I was looking for new or different work.” 

Freedom on the road 

Currently, David works via Timing as a loader at REMONDIS. Together with a colleague, he drives various routes in the area and ensures that containers at companies are emptied. 

Although his work is far removed from his Law studies, David gains experiences from it that he also takes with him for later. What he especially appreciates is the freedom on the road. 

“Of course, you have to make sure that all containers are emptied and that the route is completed neatly. But in the meantime, you have quite a bit of freedom. There is time to have coffee together and talk. That is really the best part of this job.” 

These conversations make the work extra interesting for him. During a day on the truck, various topics come up. 

“You hear all kinds of different perspectives and life experiences. I do take things from that which I apply in my studies and in my life.” 

Timing thinks along with him 

The contact with his regular contact person Lieke at Timing also plays an important role. 

“I experience the contact with Lieke as very positive. She always thinks along with me, and I can actually go to her with all my questions.” 

That the appreciation is mutual, David noticed recently when an unexpected card arrived. 

“It said that they appreciate me as a colleague and hope that I will continue to work at Timing in the future. I really enjoyed receiving that. It made me feel truly appreciated.” 

Space for later 

Although David likes to do a lot, all that work also has a purpose. He tries to set aside money alongside his studies and likes to work extra when there is room for it. 

“If you ask me where my heart lies and what I would still like to do, it is to go on a world trip. Discover cultures, meet people, and just experience something in life.” 

For that, time, money, and opportunities are needed. Exactly the things David is working on step by step now. 

For him, temporary work means more than just earning money alongside his studies. It gives him the space to study, exercise, and work today while building towards what he still wants to experience later.
